July 2001 W. Traub Classical combiner status ------------------------- (a) The 3-beam "classical" combiner metal parts were all fabricated and delivered to IOTA in mid-June, as were the mirrors for the system. The metal parts for this combiner were not assembled during this run, so this aspect is untested. However the same-design platforms and holders for the IO combiner were assembled, the piezo installed, and the piezo driven at up to 10 Hz in an interferometer setup, with good performance over about 80% of the piezo stroke, in both directions with a triangle wave, which is approximately the expected performance. (b) The dichroics and beamsplitters were delayed at the supplier long beyond the originally promised date, and so were delivered near and after the end of our run, respectively. Furthermore the dichroics as delivered were outside our original specification regarding reflectivity in the infrared, and have been returned to the vendor to be recoated. (c) The off-axis parabolas order was partially filled (4 out of a total of 9, option for 12) by mid-June, and these were used to focus light onto the fibers in the IO experiment, and were therefore not yet mounted in the free-space combiner. The OAPs were then returned to the vendor to be silver coated at the same time that the balance of the OAP order is filled.
