From wtraub@cfa.harvard.edu Sun Dec 15 18:56:51 2002 Date: Sat, 16 Nov 2002 23:51:47 -0500 (EST) From: Wesley A. Traub Subject: alignment Here are the replacement instructions for the initial steps of alignment. Follow these to get zero vignetting in the SD, LD later. Nat's notes cover the same ground, but mine are shorter. _________________________________________________________________________ Look through the alignment telescope at the exit (45-deg) mirror. Focus eyepiece first. Manually adjust the fold mirror near you to get the exit mirror XY marks nicely centered on the crosshairs. This adjsutment is slightly different for each of D1, D2, and F. Focus on the horizontal mm scale at bottom of SD. Tilt exit mirror in X to put vertical cross hair at 27=SD1, 28=SD2. Ignore vertical centering. Focus on the LD at about 2000 cm position or more. Ignore the white cardboard baffle and its fiducial marks. Yaw SD to center vertical crosshair horizontally on the LD mirror (not the reflection through the mirror, ie not the red LED). Ignore vertical centering. Focus on the corner red LED. Yaw LD to center horizontally. Tilt exit mirror to center vertically. The above steps should give zero vignetting at any SD, LD positions. Continue to feed, piezo, secondary as usual. Post this please. __________________________________________________________________________ Wes
