Planting and Harvesting Pull-down Magnets
  JDM and CP Sep 2000

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current NOTE: Not all jigs, spacers, and shims may not yet properly labeled.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This will require JIG-CP2 and the accompanying metal shims (SHIMS 1 & 2). JIG-CP2 is used to hold the strong pulldown magnets.  The three screws on the ends are used to lift magnets off the pulldown plates and also
to gently place them down onto them. The metal shims are used to protect the track from the damage due to the support screws.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Planting a Magnet
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Screw magnet into JIG, make sure the magnet is oriented properly since the hole pattern is NOT symmetrical.  Make sure screws are not too long otherwise you might push the magnets off their plate, or crack them. Use screws included with JIG if they are there.

Fully screw the 3 Lowering screws on the end, otherwise you will crash the magnet onto the plate.

Be sure to lower magnet onto a shim. The white 0.025" or orange shims work well.

Lay shim on appropriate location.  Position metal shims at the location of the lowering screws so that the track surface does not get marred during planting.

Also position the spacer "cubes" (not quite cubes but nearly) to allow the write space between the track edge and the magnet .

With plastic and metal shims in place (which may be tricky for the side magnets), carefully place JIG-CP2 with magnet into location.  You should feel the force, probably enough to hold it in place.

Now lower the magnet uniformly onto the plastic shim. You will need to hold the metal shims while doing this, since the rotation of the screws will tend to walk these shims out of place.

Once fully lowered, you can take out metal shims and unscrew JIG-CP2.
Then remove the positioning metal "cubes."

2) Harvesting Magnets
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Retract the raising screws (3) on the JIG-CP2

Screw JIG into magnet, make sure the magnet is oriented properly since the hole pattern is NOT symmetrical. Make sure screws are not too long, otherwise you might push the magnets off their plate, or crack them.  Use screws included with JIG if they are there.

Now place metal shims under the raising screws.

Raise magnet by turning the raising screws, on the metal shims. You will need to secure the metal shims in place while turning these screws.

Once magnet is lifted off the pull-down plate, you can remove the JIG with the magnet secured to it.
