Abstract

We propose to find redshifts and classifications of optically bright serendipitous sources that have been detected in Chandra X-ray archival images by the ChaMP. These observations will probe with unprecedented sensitivity the properties of nearby X-ray emitting galaxies, the ratio of active to inactive galaxies over cosmic time, and the relationship of dust/gas ratio in low luminosity AGN. With crowding and extinction minimized compared to the ChaMPlane efforts, finishing the bright ChaMP sample also probes in a well-defined volume two key features of activity on the stellar sequence, the high- and low-mass ends of the stellar alpha-Omega dynamo.
