Abstract

We propose to observe the spectra of a sample of candidate YSOs in the nearby galactic molecular cloud Lynds 1622, whose cometary shape suggests an external shock that may have led to low-mass star formation in the cloud. The spectra allow us to establish the spectral types and the pre-main sequence nature of the target stars. Comparing the results with molecular and infrared observations we expect to get a view on the star formation history of the cloud. Comparison of the stellar properties with those of known pre-main sequence members of the association Orion OB1 may help clarify the relation of L1622 to the Orion star forming complex.
