Conclusions

  • The largest modern catalogs are up to the task of providing positions of faint objects with an accuracy of about 0.2 arcsecond
  • New astrometric catalogs, such as the UCAC2, can provide even better accuracy, as good as 0.1 arcsecond, which in our test may be determined more by chip or optical distortion than catalog error.
